Submission requirements and Format for all entries

Note: Student submissions shall be treated as being free of restrictions and limitations on their use, reproduction, and publication.


Format for Entry
  • Entire entry (except introductory and ancillary material) is limited to 25 single sided pages, 10 pt. font minimum, no less than single spaced, pages numbered in lower right hand corner.
  • All figures, photos, and illustrations must have captions.
  • All references should follow a standard citation format.
  • Paper should be well organized and use headings and subheadings to help make transitions between sections.
  • Writing should be clear and concise.

  • Introductory material (does not count in 25-page limit):
  • Title page with name of project, name of institution or sponsoring organization, faculty advisor(s), student team lead(s), date submitted.
  • List of student team members and level of study (undergraduate year or graduate year)
  • One page abstract of the study.
  • Letter from supervising faculty member affirming the original work of the students.
  • If required, disclosure statement of any NASA funds received by students or faculty member.
  • Signed student release form from each student on the team.

  • Main Section (firm 25 page limit) must include:
  • Introduction and brief review of relevant literature.
  • Discussion of issues addressed by the proposed design.
  • Detailed design specifications, feasibility analysis, cost estimates, and suggestions for practical application/testing.
  • Conclusion and recommendations for further study.
  • Ancillary Material (the 25-page limit does not include this section):

  • List of references (required)
  • List of student mailing addresses for certificates/review results (optional)
  • Appendices as desired (optional)

  • Entry Submission Protocol:
    All entries should arrive on or before the due date of May 15, 2010 and include:
  • One electronic copy saved as pdf and emailed to elizabeth.b.ward@nasa.gov Email pdf. file with Subject Line: MMR Student Contest Entry
  • One hard copy and one electronic copy saved as .pdf on a CD and shipped as Instructed below.
  • All teams should provide a mailing address and email address for each team member to receive certificates of achievement and feedback on their projects from reviewers.
  • Accepted methods of hard copy delivery are Federal Express, UPS, DHL, etc. Retain the receipt and tracking number for your records. Do not rely on the US postal service unless you use Express Mail and have tracking information.
